Applications now open for September 2026 secondary school places

Secondary school place applications for September 2026 are now open until Friday 31 October. Please share the below information with families who have children in Year 6, due to move to secondary school next year.

Parents and carers with children due to move to secondary school next year can now apply for their child’s school place for September 2026. The deadline for applications is Friday 31 October 2025.

Applications can be submitted online, or parents can request an electronic form by emailing admissions.team@hants.gov.uk.

Please follow the below guidance when submitting your application:

Name three schools on your application to give you the best chance of being offered a place at one of your preferred schools
Submit your application on time, before the 31 October deadline
Use the County Council’s school catchment area finder to check the catchment school for your address
Read the schools’ admissions policies and look at previous years’ admissions data to get an indication of how many places schools can allocate and the criteria that will be used to allocate places if the school is oversubscribed
Think about how your child will get to school. See travel to school to help plan your journey and find out if you are eligible for help with transport. You must name your catchment school(s) as a preference if you wish to apply for transport assistance.

Most children whose parents name 3 preferences are offered a place at one of those preferences. However, if an alternative schools is allocated, it will be because all three preferred schools received more applications than the number of available places, and the child did not rank high enough in accordance with the oversubscription criteria to qualify for a place. In these circumstances, the child would be added to the waiting list for those schools who were unable to offer a place. Often spaces become available because families move home or secure places elsewhere. Any parent who is unhappy with the place that has been allocated for their child can appeal against the decision.

Parents can log back into the system to amend their applications at any time before the closing date on 31 October. Applications must be resubmitted after making any changes. Anyone who needs to make changes to an emailed application should contact admissions.team@hants.gov.uk

Parents who apply on time will be notified of the outcome of their application on 2 March 2026, and two to three working days later by letter if they did not supply an email address.
