Puppets in DT

Puppets for Year 1.

In Year 1 we have begun to look at the design of all types of puppets and what they are used for. We discussed how puppets can be big or small, be hand or finger puppets or even stick and string!

The children really enjoyed trying to make shadow puppets with their hands and making stick puppets using lolly sticks and lots of other resources. We watched the Gingerbread Man puppet show, then recreated our own show by using some of our class finger puppets.

We have now moved on to how we can join two pieces of material together. We have explored using glue, staples and a needle and thread. Some of the comments made by the children were..."stapling is stronger," "the glue came unstuck" "The glue won't work, you have to use a needle."

Year 1 are now very excited to design and make their own puppet ready to take home at Christmas.
